Boys & Girls Ages 9 to 14* | 1:30pm to 4:30pm

Since 1972, local Knights of Columbus councils have sponsored the Free Throw Competition all across the country for boys and girls from the age of 9 to 14* to provide an athletic outlet and encourage the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Kids compete within their own gender and age and progress from the local level to district, regional and state competitions.

(*Eligibility is determined by age as of January 1, 2025)

Times: Player Registration – 1:30pm
Competition – 1:30pm to 4:30pm

Location: St. Mary of Gostyn School Gym – Get Directions
440 Prairie Avenue, Downers Grove IL 60515
Cost: FREE – No Fee to Enter!
Eligibility: Open to all boys and girls in the Downers Grove surrounding area
Ages 9 to 14 (as of 1/1/25)
Affiliation to St. Mary of Gostyn Parish or School is NOT required
Entry & Sign Up: Preregistration is highly recommended! SIGN UP HERE
Players can sign up the day of the event from 1:30pm-2:30pm
Official Entry Form (Requires parental consent. Bring a parent to sign.)
Registration Form: Please reserve a spot for your child/children and complete Registration for each child.

Competition Rules: Each participant takes three (3) warm up shots followed by fifteen (15) consecutive free throws

a. Girls and Boys ages 9-11 shoot from a 12′ foul line using a women’s regulation basketball
b. Girls ages 12-14 shoot from a 15′ foul line using a women’s regulation basketball
c. Boys ages 12-14 shoot from a 15′ foul line using a men’s regulation basketball

Each made and missed free throw is recorded on the official Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

Qualifiers: The winner and two (2) alternates in each age group will be eligible to advance to the District Championship held in February also at St. Mary of Gostyn School. Date and Time TBD.
Spectators: All who want to spectate are welcome but will be asked to view the contest from the spectator area only.
Food: CASH-ONLY Concessions available in partnership with the SMG Athletic Department.
